Default WTB crown vic

Looking for a new dd and have been giving the crown Vic a lot of thought. Looking for 98-up but would prefer 03+. Mileage isn't a huge issue as long as it drives good and is DD capable.

Looking to spend around 2k and a P71 car is fine.

Give a search on the Hudson Valley Craigslist. I must have saw two or three ex-police cars for sale on there this past week alone.

Also, check out this site. All local municipality and school system auctions. I've seen some really nice stuff on here go for dirt cheap.

Thanks frank. I've searched on cl from Maine to Maryland and out to Ohio. I've found some decent ones just seeing if anyone knows any for sale elsewhere. I don't want to buy from an auction as my first thought is to trust no municipal vehicles. I want to be able to drive them and have a garage look it over

I would never buy a ex PD car. To say they are abused is a gross understatement and get ruined from top to bottom, inside and out!! Not to mention the absurd amount of idle hours on them.

Ya I've given that a lot of thought too. Having been snooping around crown Vic forums for quite a while and there seems to be surprisingly very few issues with p71 that came from depts that have a good maintenance program.

The cars that are the best to find seem to be a varified supervisor car(lots of people claim they have a supervisor car), a fire dept car or state police cars.

The best analogy I've gotten about local pd cars is take the mileage and multiply is by 1.5 and that's close to the wear of a normal car. Having never owned one or driven one I can only go off what I read and personal accounts.

All that being said, what brought me to the Vic, police or civilian is decent mpg, rwd, v8 and plenty of room for a baby seat and my tools. At this point in time especially having been out of work for a few months I can't afford another toy and a dd so of I can get a dd and have some fun at the same time its a win win for me.

I am looking at other cars too and if something better comes along the vic will be put on the ck burner again

Everything the master says is correct X2. To quote someone I deal with frequently. "When I get the call, the vehicle is cold started and goes foot to the floor until I'm on scene, where it idles the whole time (sometimes hours) then foot to the floor back to HQ cause I missed lunch and I'm starving."

I don't doubt that is 100% true with 90% of the p71s out there. That being said its not a deal breaker for me with the right car. There is always a chance for a problem with cars you buy. Hell I've had more issues with the 2 brand new vehicles I've bought then all other used cars combined.

I have done a lot of research on these cars and have read a lot about what to look for and what to expect.

I do appreciate the concern as we have the same thoughts.

Just to bring up the past a little for anyone that may not know. I have already owned a cop car. It was a 87ssp that had 226k miles and was beaten to hell from ct to fl and back. It was ny far the best running mustang I've ever owned. I have stayed in touch with the guy who bought it and is now restoring it and have worked out a possible deal to buy it back when he is done. This is why I'm not against buying another.
