bring it to a machine shop and have them dip it, start fresh, then either paint it nice or powdercoat it...
Nice intake but it was poorly done... Plus you want all that garbage and sludge off of it...

The term GT40, Explorer and Cobra intakes get confused quite a bit....
I believe Erics is the Explorer version. Yours was def the GT40.

Thanks, I thought the same thing. Here is a pic of an actual Cobra GT-40 production intake from 1995. Yep, I have it, honed and polished.

I like that one better, but this was an un-refuseable deal, and I cleaned off alot of sludge, still plenty more, Although all I used was a rag, engine degreaser (lol more than half empty) and...... 100grit... cuz it was all I could find when i got home.

get it professionally cleaned, its cheap to get it dipped. and don't put 100 grit on the sealing surfaces...

the actual GT40 looks awesome painted or powder coated...mines still original finish but i'm gonna be cleaning it up real soon... as for degreaser i use this stuff i get at plumbing supply houses its called perch, dry cleaners use it too. its REALLY toxic but it works better than anything i've ever seen. also there's another chemical called Kurzon no flash... basically the same thing... either way i've seen this stuff take #6 heating oil (which is like tar when it's cold) out of a 2" pipe by just soakiing... again this stuff is really toxic but it works awesome i use it for parts cleaner all the time i just wear gloves.
i use it at work all the time. i have like 4 gallons of it at home if anyone needs to clean some small parts or anything let me know.
